Which Maya Temples should I choose?

Choosing the Temples which are right for you does depend on personal preference and not difficulty of the Ruins.  The length of Tour also will make a decisive factor.  Altun Ha is perhaps one of the easiest Maya Temples to explore due to proximity to Belize City.  Lamanai is perhaps the most exotic location due to the boat ride on the New River, if you ever wanted to be on a National Geographic Magazine© documentary Lamanai is for you!  Xanantunich will take you to the edge of Belize between Belize and the Guatemala border, the landscape at Xanantunich (as well the incredible Ruins) is truly mesmerizing.

How do we get there?

The Tours start from Belize City which will also offer you a Belize City Tour on the way to the Maya Temples as well as upon your return at the end of the Tour.  All tours are organized in small groups, we only utilize 14 to 16 seater vans for the travel to the Temples.  All vans have A/C and come with your own Guide and Driver.  Our Guides are bi-lingual in English and Spanish upon request.  All  Tours in Belize require a minimum of 50 minutes of Travel time from Belize City, the private comfortable vans will make a difference in your travels enjoyment.

Belize Xanantunich Maya Temples

The Xanantunich Maya Ruins are by far the ruins with the most archeological importance in the county of Belize.  Situated in tropical rainforest the Temples of Xanantunich are West of Belize City close to the Guatemalan border in the beautiful Cayo District.  Xanantunich contains one of the tallest Mayan structures found in Belize, built on grandiose hilltops overlooking the Mopan River. Additionally, the sculptures found here at Xanantunich are the most detailed and intricate of those found in Belize.

Your journey begins right inside the port if Belize City where our guides will meet you before heading by air conditioned vans to the beautiful Cayo District; a Belize District we like to refer to "a Tropical Switzerland", with rolling green lawns, palm trees, plantations and mountains.

The beginning of the Tour departs from Belize City, and you will be given a Tour of the City on the way to the Western Highway which leads to the Cayo District.

In Cayo you will meet the Mopan River where your Xanantunich Mayan exploration begins by first crossing the river in your van in a hand cranked ferry.  Passenger have to exit the vans per regulations and stay on the ferry, only the driver is to remain in the van for the short 2 minute crossing.  Undoubtedly the guide will exit the van as well to admire the 5 foot iguanas which inhibit the river banks, sun tanning next to the many horses frolicking on the green riverbank grass.

Xanantunich is an easily accessible excursion, the Temples sit on top of a mountain in Cayo, the van will take you to the front steps of the Ruins where the incline is minimal.  From there your guide will lead you to explore one of the most scenic Temples in Belize, Xanantunich.  The tallest Temple in Belize (in fact, one of the tallest structures in Belize) is the Castillo Temple, standing 135 feet above the ground climbing on top is a treat for the eyes.  From the top of El Castillo you will be able to see the Guatemalan Peten District, The Maya Mountains and a grand view of the whole Cayo District of Belize!

Xanantunich has been in excavation since the early 1900'ds back in those years the only populace found in the area of Cayo were Maya Villages and wildlife.  The two are still encountered on this tour, The Cayo district in one of the most lush locations in Belize.  The rolling hills (Maya Mountains) and rivers provide the perfect natural setting for exploration.

All excursions are organized to depart according to each individual Cruise Ship Arrival and Departure Time in Belize.  All excursion departures differ from day to day depending on the Ship in Port in order to assure an adequate meeting time at the Port as well as a safe return back to the Port before your Ship's departure.

Tips:  Wear comfortable shoes, or comfortable sandals or tennis shoes.  Sunscreen is also recommended.  Bug spray is also offered on the tour, if you have a preferred bug spray please bring it along.  A camera and/or video camera is a must on this tour, you will have many opportunities for incredible photos not to be missed!  Water, soft drinks and Lunch is all provided on the Lamanai Tour.
